Izzy Mendez netted the game-winning goal 2:19 into extra time.
PROVIDENCE R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team earned its third-straight victory it defeated Villanova, 1-0, in overtime. Junior forward Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) tallied the game-winning goal just 2:19 into extra time off a feed from fellow junior Allyson Parker (Orange, Mass.). It marked the Friars' second-straight overtime victory, having defeated BIG EAST foe Temple, 3-2, in double-overtime on Sept. 21. Providence improved to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the BIG EAST. Villanova dropped to 4-6 overall (1-2 BIG EAST).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS & NOTES
- The two teams were deadlocked in a scoreless draw after 70 minutes of regulation.
- The Friars outshot the Wildcats, 11-4, in regulation and held a 9-2 edge in penalty corners.
- Junior Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal 2:19 into overtime to give Providence the 1-0 win.
- Junior Allyson Parker (Orange, Mass.) carried the ball into the left side of the circle, eluding a Wildcat defender. She sent a pass to the right post, where Mendez dove to deflect the ball into the cage.
- It marked Mendez's fifth goal of the second and second game-winning goal.
- Senior Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) recorded her third shut-out victory of the season, and first career shutout against a BIG EAST opponent with two saves.
- During regulation, the Friars rang the post on two occasions. Parker hit the post in the first half at 26:07, and junior Mary O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) hit the post in the second half at 62:22.
- The Friars have won three-straight games, including each of the last two in overtime.
- Providence started the season with an 0-3 record, but have earned victories in six of its last eight games.
