Softball Welcomes Bryant For Midweek Game On Glay Field

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team is set to host Bryant University for a midweek non-conference game on Wednesday, March 23, at 5:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on FriarsLive.  

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE 

Providence enters this midweek match with an 11-11 record and 5-1 mark in BIG EAST play, which is the best start in conference play in program history.  

Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week following a standout performance in Providence's series sweep of DePaul. The senior batted .667 (6-for-9) with seven RBI and five runs scored, while posting a .889 slugging percentage and a .727 on-base percentage for the series. She currently leads the Friars with a .442 batting average and a .510 on-base percentage on the season. 

Junior Cameron Dunn. (Bothell, Wash.) has had an impressive season for Providence so far. The infielder has been featured on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice and leads the team with 24 RBI, nine home runs and a .934 slugging percentage. Her nine home runs are tied for first in the BIG EAST.  

Senior Alannah Hopkins (Sylva, N.C.) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after making an impact both at the plate and in the circle against DePaul. Hopkins hit .500 (1-for-2) with one RBI, while also posting a 1-0 record with a 1.75 ERA in the circle. She struck out seven batters and allowed just two earned runs across 8.0 innings pitched. On the season, Hopkins has recorded 19 strikeouts in 25.0 innings pitched. 

In the circle, junior Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) leads the pitching staff with a 5-1 record and a 3.14 ERA. She has recorded 31 strikeouts in 35.2 innings pitched. Twomey's 3.14 ERA ranks third in the BIG EAST. 

SCOUTING BRYANT 

The Bulldogs enter Wednesday's game with an 11-14 record and 2-1 mark in America East play. 

Alissa West leads the Bulldogs offensively with a .370 batting average, adding two home runs and 10 RBI while posting a .519 slugging percentage. Bryce Clendenin has also been a key contributor, batting .339 with a team-high 13 RBI and a .467 on-base percentage. 

In the circle, Maddy Wachter leads the pitching staff with a 6-3 record and a 3.09 ERA across 63.1 innings pitched. She has recorded 28 strikeouts and thrown seven complete games on the season. Brooke Tracy has also seen significant time, making 13 appearances and recording 15 strikeouts in 45.0 innings of work. 

ON DECK… 

The Friars are set to play a three-game BIG EAST series from March 27-29 against Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J. Game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27.
