Maeve O’Neill To Run For Ireland At 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships

O’Neill will compete in the 800 meters.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College junior Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) will compete for Ireland at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 in Toruń, Kujawy Pomorze, Poland from Friday, March 20 to Sunday, March 22. O'Neill will race in the 800 meters.
 
O'Neill enters the World Championships after earning Second Team All-America honors at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
 
On Feb. 22, O'Neill broke her own indoor program record in the 800 meters at the Saucony Battle for Boston, clocking 2:00.33. The mark ranks ninth all-time in NCAA indoor history and set the Irish senior indoor record.
 
O'Neill is the first Friar to compete in the World Championships since Ben Connor in 2019 in Doha. The junior will be the first Friar to compete in the 800 meters at the World Championships.
