RALEIGH, N.C. - The Providence College softball team traveled to North Carolina to compete at the Second Annual Raleigh Times Tournament, hosted NC State. On the opening day (Feb. 20), the Friars defeated Akron, 10-7 in eight innings, and fell to NC State, 14-6, in game two.
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) recorded two home runs on the day, giving her four on the season.

AKRON NOTES (GAME 1)
• The Friars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) led off with a bunt single. She stole second and later scored on an RBI double by  Dunn.
• The Friars added to their lead when Dunn doubled to left center to put runners on second and third. Â
Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) followed with a two-run double to center field, scoring
Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) and Dunn to extend the lead to 3-0.
• Later in the same inning, the Friars continued to apply pressure as
Hailey Frantz (Danville, Calif.) singled to left and moved into scoring position with a stolen base.
Dominique Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.) delivered a two-RBIÂ single to right field, bringing home
Julia Renny and Frantz to add to Providence's lead. 5-0, Providence.

Valentina Iula (Westbury, N.Y.) singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lee, before Smith brought her home with an RBI double. Smith stole home to score Providence's seventh run of the game.
• Akron put together a late rally to tie the game, 7-7, and forced extra innings.
• In the eighth inning, the Friars capitalized with the bases loaded. Smith drew a walk to bring home
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) to give Providence an 8-7 lead. Dunn then delivered the knockout blow with a two-run single to short, scoring
Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) and
Emerson Buckley (Methuen, Mass.) to give Providence the 10-7 victory.
• Freshman
Addyson Frye (New Castle, Pa.) made the start for Providence and pitched five innings.
Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) pitched three scoreless innings of relief.

NC STATE NOTES (GAME 2)
• In the first inning, Dunn recorded a solo home run to give the Friars an early 1-0 lead.
• NC State scored five innings in the bottom of the first (5-1)
• Providence responded with back-to-back home runs from Gallardo and Eichten to cut the deficit to 5-3.
• In the third inning, the Friars got on the board again when Dunn advanced to second and Smith moved to third on a wild pitch.
Julia Renny then grounded out to short, but Smith was able to score on the play (8-4).Â
• In the top of the fifth,
Sofia Peterson launched a two-run home run to deep right field, scoring Buckley from first base.
• The Friars lost in five innings, 14-6.
• The Friars recorded four home runs and seven hits in the game.

The Friars return to action tomorrow, February 21, for day two of the Raleigh Times Tournament. They will face Illinois at 12:00 p.m. followed by a second game against NC State at 5:00 p.m.
