Softball Drops Two Games On Day Two At The Raleigh Times Tournament

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 9:00 a.m. for a rematch against Illinois

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Providence College softball team (2-7) went 0-2 on day two at the Raleigh Times Tournament. The Friars fell to Illinois, 11-2, in five innings and host NC State, 15-1, in five innings. Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) scored the Friars' lone run against NC State and recorded her fourth home run on the season.  

ILLINOIS NOTES (GAME 1)

  • Illinois scored three runs in the top of the first to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) had an RBI double in the bottom of the first to put the Friars on the board (3-1).
  • Illinois put up eight runs, with three coming in the second inning and five in the third inning, to extend its lead to 11-1.
  • Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
  • Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) scored on a fielding error in the bottom of the fifth to make the final score 11-2.
  • The Friars finished the game with four hits.

NC STATE NOTES (GAME 2)

  • Dunn homered in the top of the first to put the Friars on the board and take an early 1-0 lead.
  • NC State responded with 15 runs through four innings to claim the lead, 15-1.
  • Providence recorded three hits in the game and were recorded by Dunn, Brianna De La Fuente (Metuchen, N.J.) and Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas).

ON DECK…

The Friars return to action on February 22 at 9:00 a.m. for a rematch against Illinois to close out the Raleigh Times Tournament.
