Providence College Softball Hosts Tarleton State In Three-Game Set

The Friars will meet the Texans for two games on April 25 and wrap up the series with one on April 26.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Friars will host a three-game series against Tarleton State on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m., followed by the finale on Saturday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m. Senior student-athletes will be honored in between games on the 25th.  
 

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE 

Providence enters the series with a 20-25 overall record and an 11-10 mark in BIG EAST play. Earlier this week, the Friars split two games at Stonehill on April 21 before earning a road win over intra-state rival, Bryant, 8-6, on April 23.

Junior Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) and Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) lead the Friars offensively, batting .377 and .352, respectively. Smith paces the team with 52 hits, 33 runs scored and a .463 on-base percentage while Dunn owns a team-best .623 slugging percentage, along with 35 RBI and eight home runs. 

Senior Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) made a major impact in the matchup at Bryant, collecting two doubles and three RBI.

Graduate student Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) leads the pitching staff with a 3.57 ERA and a 9-8 record. She has registered 57 strikeouts while conceding 50 earned runs across 98 innings of work.  
 

SCOUTING TARLETON STATE  

Tarleton State enters the series with a 31-18 overall record and a 13-8 mark in WAC play. The Texans are coming off an 8-4 win at UTSA on April 23, tying the mark for most D1 wins in program history.  

Senior Austin Germain leads the lineup in hits (65), doubles (21), batting average (.445), slugging percentage (.705) and on-base percentage (.497). She registered an RBI single in Wednesday's match over the Roadrunners.  

Shelby Schultz has been a standout in the circle for the Texans, posting a 14-4 record with 149 strikeouts over 118.2 innings pitched. She has allowed 45 earned runs and 120 hits this season. Her 149 strikeouts currently rank 27th nationally. 

 
ON DECK  

The Friars will host Brown in the home finale on Wednesday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m., on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness.
