Providence College Softball Welcomes UConn To Glay For Three-Game Set

The Friars will play the Huskies in a three-game conference series from April 11-13.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team will host the UConn Huskies in a three-game conference series beginning on Friday, April 11 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The series will open with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m., followed by game two scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The series finale will take place on April 13 at 3:00 p.m. Games one and two will stream on FloSports and the finale will be available for viewing on the BIG EAST Digital Network. 

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE 

Providence enters the weekend series with a 15-21 record overall and an 8-7 mark in BIG EAST play. PC most recently defeated intra-state rival Bryant, 5-4, on Wednesday, April 9. Senior Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) led the Friars to the win as she finished the night with a solo home run, two hits and two RBI. Last week, Providence went 3-1, picking up a non-conference win over Boston University and taking two of three games from Seton Hall to secure a BIG EAST series victory. 

Sophomore Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) paced the Friars last week with a team-high six hits, four RBI and two runs scored, posting a .462 batting average and an impressive .500 on-base percentage. She played a key role in the Friars' 6-5 walk-off victory in the opening game over Seton Hall, sparking the offense with a two-run single and finishing the game with a walk-off single with two-outs in the bottom of the seventh. Dunn leads the squad with 40 hits, seven home runs and 32 RBI. She currently holds a .707 slugging percentage and a .479 on-base percentage.  

Graduate student Tori Grifone capped off last week with a 1-0 record and a 1.20 ERA across 11.2 innings of work. She allowed just two earned runs on eight hits while holding opposing batters to a .195 average. In game two against Seton Hall, Grifone delivered a complete-game performance, going the full seven innings while limiting the Pirates to three hits and two earned runs. She recorded five 1-2-3 innings and finished with one strikeout. 

 SCOUTING CONNECTICUT  

UConn heads into the weekend series with a 22-13 overall record and a 9-3 mark in BIG EAST action. Connecticut has won nine of their last 10 games. Most recently, the Huskies defeated UMass, 10-4, in Storrs, Conn. on April 9.  

Over their last ten games, the Huskies' offense has played a crucial role in their success, racking up 92 runs on 112 hits, including 18 home runs, 25 doubles, and 48 walks, while maintaining a team batting average of .373. This season, UConn ranks 34th in the nation with 44 home runs and averages 1.29 homers per game, placing them 26th in Division I.  

Sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin leads the team and the BIG EAST with 12 home runs. Junior catcher Grace Jenkins follows with 11 home runs. Jenkins leads the squad in batting average (.385), RBI (46), slugging percentage (.795), on-base percentage (.479) and doubles (15). Senior outfielder Lexi Hastings set a conference record of 116 career BIG EAST hits in the Huskies' win over UMass. She currently holds 49 hits, 16 RBI and 41 runs scored on the season.  

ON DECK  

The Friars will head to Washington, D.C. to take on the Georgetown Hoyas. Providence will begin series play with game on Wednesday, April 16 starting at 3:00 p.m. The three-game set will conclude with a doubleheader on Thursday, April 17 starting at 12:00 p.m. All games available for viewing on FloSports.
