QUEENS, N.Y.- The Providence College softball team was defeated, 9-2, by St. John's (24-10-1, 6-1 BIG EAST) on Friday, March 28, on Red Storm Field in Queens, N.Y. PC moved to 11-18 overall, including a 6-4 mark BIG EAST play. Junior
Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) spearheaded the PC offense going two for three at the plate. She recorded the lone RBI single for the Friars.
GAME NOTES
- The Johnnies opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first by London Jarrard (2-0).
- Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) got the Friars on the board in the second, scoring on a passed ball (2-1).
- SJU's Jarrard added an RBI single in the third inning (3-1).
- Smith cut the deficit to one in the fifth after singling up the middle to score Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) (3-2).
- The Johnnies were able to secure a 9-2 win after recording three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
- Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) split equal time in the circle (2.2 innings). The two pitchers combined for two strikeouts while allowing 11 hits and nine earned runs.
