Softball Falls To Binghamton And No. 2 Florida In Day One At Bubly Invitational

The Friars continue tournament play tomorrow with a matchup against Boston College and No. 12 Duke.
GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Providence College softball team went 0-2 on the opening day of the Bubly Invitational on Friday, February 14, in Gainesville, Fla. The Friars were defeated by Binghamton, 3-0, in the first game and later fell, 5-0, at No. 2 Florida. Providence moved to 0-6 on the season.
VS. BINGHAMTON NOTES (GAME ONE)
• Binghamton opened the scoring with a home run in the first, before adding two more runs off an RBI double in the bottom of the third.
• The Friars were unable to find the answer over the subsequent innings.
• Alannah Hopkins (Slyva, N.C.) spent five innings in the circle for the Friars. The junior faced 21 batters, conceding six hits and three earned runs.
AT NO. 2 FLORIDA NOTES (GAME TWO)
• The game remained scoreless through the first two innings.
• The Gators jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning.
• Florida added another run in the bottom of the fifth.
• Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) pitched all innings for PC. The graduate student faced 28 batters. She recorded one strike out and conceded 10 hits and five earned runs.
ON DECK...
The Friars will continue Bubly Tournament action with two games tomorrow, February 15. Providence will open day two with a game against Boston College at 9:00 a.m. and conclude the day against No. 12 Duke at 4:30 p.m.
