Women’s 4x800 Team Claims BIG EAST Title At Final Day Of The BIG EAST Championship

The Friars claimed a BIG EAST title in the 4x800-meter relay and Kimberley May was awarded Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the meet.
VILLANOVA, Pa.– The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams competed in the final day of the BIG EAST Championship in Villanova, Pa., at the Jumbo Elliott Track at Villanova University on Saturday, May 11. The Friars claimed a BIG EAST title in the 4x800-meter relay and Kimberley May was awarded Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the meet.
On the final day of competition, the team of Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.), Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England), Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) won the 4x800-meter relay title in a time of 8:33.43.
In the 1,500-meter finals, Flockhart earned All-BIG EAST honors after finishing second in a time of 4:11.20. Laverty placed fifth with a time of 4:19.08. Kiera Hall (Christchurch, New Zealand) placed seventh in a personal record time of 4:26.22, followed by Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) in eighth with a time of 4:27.99.
Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) ran a personal record time of 2:04.87 to place third in the 800 meters. O'Neill's performance earned her All-BIG EAST accolades and ranks second in program history.
Nicole Borowiec (Denville, N.J.) placed fifth in a time of 14.21 in the 100-meter hurdles.
Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.) ran a personal best of 55.97 in the 400-meter finals to finish seventh.
Fenerty, Atkinson, Maggie Kemper (Huntington, N.Y.) and O'Neill placed seventh in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:54.87.
On the men's side, Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) earned All-BIG EAST honors for placing third in the 400-meter finals with a 47.30 time.
Jon Mignacca (Seekonk, Mass.) reached a mark of 1.93 meters in the high jump to tie for fifth place.
The team of Pat Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia), Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand), Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) and Nick Cassarino (Durham, Conn.) finished fifth in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:31.82.
In the men's 1,500-meter finals, Bartlett ran a time of 3:51.17 for 10th place. Jacob Hefele (Danbury, Conn.) finished in 14th with a time of 4:00.12 and Aidan Higley (Wilmington, Del.) placed 15th in 4:00.95.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Nico Fanuele (Wilmington, Mass.), Will Rainey (San Jose, Calif.), Kyle Bloomer (Darien, Conn.) and Mignacca finished seventh in a time of 44.55.
Nik Ventura (Jamison, Pa.) reached a mark of 12.84 meters in the triple jump to place seventh.

The Friars will compete in the first round of the NCAA Championship on May 22-25 in Lexington, Ky.
