Softball Scheduled to Take on #23/#RV Boston University and DePaul

The Friars will play a mid-week match at BU and host DePaul this weekend.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team (14-17, 5-10 BIG EAST) is scheduled to compete in a mid-week matchup against the No.23/RV Boston University Terriers (29-4, 5-0 Patriot League) on Tuesday, April 9 in Boston, Mass. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+. The Friars will have a quick turnaround to host the DePaul University Blue Demons in a three-game series on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. beginning on Friday, April 12.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS

The Friars enter this week with a 14-17 overall record and a 5-10 mark in the BIG EAST. Providence was most recently bested 2-1 in a three-game BIG EAST series against Seton Hall.

Senior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) spearheaded the Friar offense this past week, posting a .400 batting average, .700 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. Harrington is the only player that has made an appearance in the starting lineup for all 31 games year. So far this season, she has registered 28 hits, four home runs, 14 RBI, 16 runs and currently leads the team in slugging percentage (.526).

Sophomore Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) was a key player in the Friars' 6-3 win over the Pirates on April 6. Lee went 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. She currently owns a .301 batting average, including eight RBI and 11 runs scored.

Junior Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) has consistently led the team this season. Aldrich boasts a team-high 31 hits, 20 RBI and a .489 slugging percentage. Against Seton Hall, Aldrich went 4-for-10 at the plate (.400), as she knocked in two RBI and scored a run.

SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY

The Terriers hold a 30-4 overall record including a 6-0 mark in Patriot League play and a 2-0 record at home. BU most recently swept a three-game series at Colgate in conference play.
 

Lauren Keleher leads the Terriers with a .444 batting average on 52 hits, 25 RBI and five home runs. Keleher has scored 32 runs while maintaining a .675 slugging percentage and a .489 on-base percentage. Kayla Roncin has assisted offensively  with 53 hits (.421 avg), 27 RBI and 26 runs.

Kasey Ricard and Allison Boaz own the circle for the Terriers. Richard has started 14 games, pitching 114.0 innings while recording 113 strikeouts and allowing 56 hits and 25 earned runs (1.54 ERA). Boaz is close behind with a 1.83 ERA, 61 strikeouts with 61 hits and 25 earned runs conceded.  

SCOUTING DEPAUL

The Blue Demons enter this week with an 8-25 overall record including a 3-9 mark in BIG EAST play. Last week, the Blue Demons lost two of three games to the Butler Bulldogs (April 5-6). Before entering BIG EAST play against the Friars, DePaul is set to play Iowa State on April 9.

Brooke Johnson leads the offense with a .385 batting average, .719 slugging percentage and a .459 on-base percentage. Johnson holds a team-best 27 runs, 37 hits, 19 RBI and eight home runs. Brenna Smith has pitched 58.0 innings in the circle for DePaul as she holds a 2.78 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 36 earned runs allowed.

ON DECK

The Friars will continue play on Glay Field when they host Merrimack College (12-21, 6-3 NEC) in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 17 in Providence, R.I. First game is set for 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloSports.
