SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- The Providence College Softball team was defeated by the Seton Hall Pirates (18-14, 9-6 BIG EAST), 9-2, on Sunday, April 7 in South Orange, N.J. Providence fell to 14-17 overall and 5-10 in the BIG EAST. Five Friars recorded hits as Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) led the charge going 2-for-4 at bat.
GAME NOTES
-SHU took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
-In the top of the second, Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) and Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) each knocked in an RBI single to help the Friars to a 2-1 advantage over the Pirates. Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.) and Grifone crossed the plate .
-Seton Hall countered with eight unanswered runs in the remaining innings to finish on top with a final score of 9-2.
-Grifone, Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.), Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) and Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) all spent time on the circle for the Friars. The pitchers recorded a combined three strikeouts while conceding 11 hits and nine earned runs.

The Friars will play a mid-week match against the Boston University Terriers (28-4, 4-0 Patriot League) on Tuesday, April 9 in Boston, Mass. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloSports.
