PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Providence College women's distance medley team competed in the second day of Penn Relays on Friday, April 26 in Philadelphia, Pa. The Friars took second place in the Women's Distance Medley Championship of America.
The distance medley team of
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland),
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England),
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and
Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.) placed second in the event in a school record time of 10:39.04. The time ranks second all-time in NCAA history. Flockhart ran the fastest 1,200-meter split in NCAA history with a time of 3:15.11. Fenerty ran a 55.05 in the 400 meters followed by O'Neill with a 2:05.21 in the 800 meters. May anchored the team with a 4:23.68 split in the 1,600-meter leg, ranking second in NCAA history.
Harvard claimed first with the NCAA record time of 10:37.55.
