Sofia Peterson knocked in Providence’s lone run on Thursday.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team was defeated by the UAlbany Great Danes (19-10, 7-4 AE), 11-1, in a non-conference match on Thursday, April 18 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars moved to 18-19 overall (8-10 BIG EAST). Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run.

GAME NOTES

-The Great Danes got on the board with a two-run home run in the top of the first (2-0).

-Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) cut the Friars' deficit in half with an RBI single that scored Lee in the bottom of the fourth.

-UAlbany pulled away with three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth (6-1).

-Due to inclement weather, the game was called in the top of the seventh inning with the Great Danes ahead, 11-1.

-Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) and Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) split time in the circle as they pitched 4.0 and 2.0 innings, respectively. The two pitchers combined for three strikeouts while conceding six hits and three earned runs.

ON DECK

The Friars will have a weekend off before returning to action at Boston University on April 24 and hosting the Georgetown Hoyas (11-25, 2-13 BIG EAST) in a three-game series beginning on April 26.
