Softball Defeats DePaul,10-2, in Six Innings To Earn Sweep

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team defeated the DePaul University Blue Demons (8-29, 3-12 BIG EAST), 10-2, in a six-inning game on Sunday, April 14 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 17-18 overall and 8-10 in BIG EAST play. Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) spearheaded the Friar offense as she went 3-for-4 at bat, knocking in three RBI including, a two-run home run that marked her third of the series and seventh of the season.
GAME NOTES
-The Blue Demons scored two early runs in the top of the second.
-Peterson tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the second after hitting a two-run home run. This marked her third of the series and seventh of the season.
-The Friars surged ahead with a 5-2 lead in the third inning, ignited by consecutive RBI doubles from of Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.), and Peterson. Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Fla.), sealed the inning with an RBI single. Peterson, Harrington and Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) all crossed the plate.
-Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) extended PC's lead to 7-2 after drilling a two-run RBI single to right field that scored Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) and Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.).
-The Friars added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the win with a score of 10-2.
-Twomey pitched a complete six-inning game on the circle for the Friars. She recorded five strikeouts while conceding five hits and only one earned run.
ON DECK
The Friars will host Merrimack College (15-24, 8-5 NEC) in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 17.The first game of the series is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. For fans unable to attend, the games will be broadcast on FloSports.
