Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

KINGSTON, R.I.- The Providence College softball team defeated the University of Rhode Island Rams (5-20, 3-3 A10), 8-7, in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 27 in Kingston, R.I. The Friars improved to 12-13 overall (3-6 BIG EAST) as they came back from a 3-0 deficit to clinch the win. Senior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) went 2-for-3 at the plate as she registered a RBI and scored two runs. Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.), Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) and Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) each tallied two RBI on the day. Peterson, Renny and Harrington each hit home runs.
GAME NOTES
- The Rams gained an early 3-0 advantage, scoring two runs in the first inning and one in the third.
- PC countered in the third inning with back-to-back home runs by Peterson and Harrington (2 RBI) to tie the score at 3-3.
- URI regained a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
- Providence answered in the top of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) singled to center to score Rachael Petrarca (Tampla, Fla.). Aldrich followed with a two-run RBI to bring Lee and Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) home.
- In the top of the sixth, Renny homered to center field to bring herself and Harrington across the plate as the Friars took an 8-4 lead.
- The Rams rallied late in the bottom of the seventh to bring the score within one. However, the Friars were able fend them off for the 8-7 win.
-Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) and Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) split time on the circle for the Friars, pitching 3.0 and 4.0 innings, respectively. Twomey was awarded her eighth win of the season as she struck out two while allowing six hits and four earned runs. Quirk faced 14 batters, striking out one while conceding four hits and two earned runs.
- Petrarca went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored a run.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Storrs, Conn. to play a three-game series against the UConn Huskies (17-14, 5-1 BIG EAST) beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30. The first game of the series is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. All games will be broadcasted on FloSports.
