PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team will play the University of Rhode Island in a mid-week Ocean State matchup on Wednesday, March 27 at 3:30 p.m. in Kingston, R.I. The Friars will then travel to Storrs, Conn. to face the University of Connecticut Huskies in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on March 30 at 12:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars enter the week with an improved 11-13 overall record and a 3-6 mark in BIG EAST action. Last week, the Friars swept a doubleheader against the Stonehill Skyhawks on March 20 and then took two of three games against the St. John's Red Storm over the weekend (March 22-24).

Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) leads the Friar offense with a .365 batting average, 23 hits, 13 RBI, two home runs and 19 runs. Aldrich was a key player last week as she posted four RBI and three runs while batting 5-for-12 at the plate.

Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) had a stellar performance in the doubleheader against the Skyhawks. Douma recorded four RBI as she went 2-for-3 at the plate with both hits resulting in home runs.

Sophomore
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) helped the Friars to the 2-1 series win over the Red Storm. Lee hit the game-winning RBI in the 2-1 win over SJU on March 24. Across the three games against The Johnnies, Lee went 4-for-9 on the plate for a .444 batting average.

Freshman pitcher
Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) was named Pitcher of the Week this week (March 25) after earning three of the four Friar victories. This marks Twomey's third BIG EAST recognition and second time as BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. Over her four appearances this week, Twomey owned a 0.31 ERA across 22.1 innings. The freshman struck out 28 batters while only allowing one earned run and six hits. Twomey tossed a complete-game five-inning shutout against Stonehill, as she struck out eight without allowing a run. The rookie led the Friars to the two wins over St. John's as she pitched a complete game on Friday's (March 22) 2-1 win over The Johnnies and 4.1 innings in the final game of the series (March 24) (W, 2-1).

SCOUTING URI
The Rams enter the week with a 5-19 overall record and a 3-3 mark in A10 play. URI most recently bested their A10 opponent, St. Bonaventure, twice over the weekend (March 24-25).

Elena Gonzalez leads the URI offense with a .309 batting average on 21 hits, four runs and eight RBI. Cassie Swenson holds a team-best 14 RBI with 18 hits and four runs on the season.

Katie Zaun runs the circle for the Rams with a 2-5 record, 4.71 ERA and 20 shutouts over 38.2 innings.

SCOUTING UCONN
UConn currently boasts a 17-12 overall record, a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST play and a 5-0 record at home. The Huskies most recently defeated the Butler Bulldogs, winning two of the three games over the weekend (March 22-24). The Huskies will take on Boston University today (March 26) with a doubleheader in Storrs, Conn.

Grace Jenkins runs the Huskies' offense with a .360 batting average, 32 hits, 22 runs, three home runs and 30 RBI. Rosie Garcia and Hope Jenkins follow suit with 21 RBI each.

Hallie Siems commands the circle for Uconn with an 8-3 record, 2.83 ERA and 80 shutouts over 69.1 innings. Siems has allowed 60 hits and 28 earned runs. Siems was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (March 25) after giving up just one run in 13.2 innings pitched (0.51 ERA) in the Huskies' midweek victory over Central Connecticut. The senior tallied a season-high ten strikeouts in five innings.
