Jacque Harrington and Sofia Peterson registered multiple hits for the Friars on Sunday.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team was downed by the Villanova Wildcats (14-11, 6-0 BIG EAST), 17-5, on Sunday, March 17 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars fell to 7-12 overall and 1-5 in BIG EAST play. Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) recorded two-hit performances for the Friars.

GAME NOTES

-The Wildcats raced out to a 7-0 lead in the opening three innings.

- The Friars got a run back in the bottom of the third on a Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) RBI single.

- The teams matched eached other with three runs each in the fourth inning.

- A two-run double from Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) and an RBI double from Harrington highlighted the scoring for the Friars in the fourth inning.

- The Wildcats countered with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

-Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.), Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) and Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) all made appearances in the circle for the Friars.

ON DECK

The Friars will welcome in Stonehill College for a doubleheader at Glay Field on Wednesday, March 20 beginning at 3 p.m.
