The Friars will play the Wildcats in a three-game series beginning on March 15.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team will host the Villanova Wildcats (11-11, 3-0 BIG EAST) on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. in a three-game series that will begin on March 15. Sunday's game against the Wildcats can be seen nationally on FS1 beginning at 3 p.m.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars opened BIG EAST play earlier this week (March 11-12) against Butler, posting a 1-2 mark over three games played. In the final game of the series (March 12), the Friars defeated the Bulldogs, 9-7. Providence is now 7-9 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST action.
Junior Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) spearheaded the Friar offense earlier this week, batting 4-for-7 (.571) at the plate with three RBI while recording four runs and a .700 on-base percentage. Aldrich currently leads the team overall in batting average (.356) and runs (12).
Sophomore Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) had standout performances over the three games at Butler, tallying three RBI and three hits. Lee played stellar in the win over the Bulldogs, going 2-for-4 at the plate while bringing in two RBI and scoring two runs.
Junior Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) has had a noteworthy season so far for the Friars, leading the team in hits (18) and RBI (12). Douma knocked in three RBI in the win over Butler earlier this week.
Freshman pitcher Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) has commanded the circle for the Friars. She currently boasts a 1.88 ERA, four wins and 44 strikeouts while allowing only 11 earned runs over 41 innings pitched.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
The Wildcats enter the weekend 3-0 in conference play, sweeping Seton Hall in a three-game series last weekend (March 8-10).
Tess Cites leads Villanova offensively in batting average (.355), hits (22), runs (18) and on-base percentage (.524). Ally Jones, Ava Franz and Brooklyn Ostrowski all have 15 RBI on the season.
Caroline Pellicano leads the circle for the Wildcats with a 2.27 ERA and 21 strikeouts while conceding 12 earned runs and 42 hits in 37 innings pitched. On March 11, Pellicano was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after throwing six scoreless innings with three strikeouts against the reigning BIG EAST Champions (Seton Hall).
ON DECK
The Friars will play a doubleheader versus Stonehill College on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. on Wednesday, March 20. The first pitch of game one is scheduled to be thrown at 3:00 p.m on FloSports.
