Softball Rallies Past Georgetown, 12-8

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College softball team erased a six-run deficit to rally for a 12-8 victory over Georgetown University on Thursday, April 6 in Washington, D.C. Jacque Harrington led the way for the Friars with three hits, a home run and six RBI.
 
GAME NOTES 
-The Hoyas got off to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza hit an RBI single to right center field. 
-Georgetown extended its lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the second inning scoring five runs. 
-The Friars responded scoring nine runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. Junior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) contributed two hits during the inning as she hit an RBI double to right center field followed by a grand slam in her next at-bat. Freshman Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) also had a hit for the Friars bringing in two runs to make it a 9-6 game. 
-In the bottom of the fourth, Georgetown's Cameron Kondo hit a solo home run to bring the Hoyas within two, 9-7. 
-In the top of the seventh, the Friars added insurance to their lead; freshman Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) hit her first collegiate solo home run to right field. Senior Gianna Magrino (Mamroneck, N.Y.) and freshman Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) also scored for the Friars in the inning to give Providence a 12-7 lead. 
- The Hoyas added a run in the bottom of the seventh to account for the final scoring. Freshman Riley Quirk improved to 3-4 after pitching the final 4.2 innings, allowing just two earned runs on three while striking out five.
 
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to North Andover, Mass. to face Merrimack on Tuesday, April 11.
