PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team defeated cross-city rival Brown University, 3-2, in eight innings on Wednesday (April 26) at Glay Field.
GAME NOTES
- After a scoreless opening three frames, the Bears got on the board in the top of the fourth after scoring a run on a wild pitch.
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) prevented Brown from additional damage as she fired home after hauling a fly ball in to cut down a runner at the plate to end the inning.
- The Friars scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Julia Renny's (Syosset, N.Y.) RBI infield single and
Hanna Aldrich's (Taunton, Mass.) RBI groundout got the Friars on the board.
- The Bears rallied to tie the game at 2-2 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings.

Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a double, followed by a single by
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) to put runners at the corners.
- The game ended as Harrington stole second base and the throw went into center field, allowing Douma to come home with the winning run.
- Senior
Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn her fourth win of the season.
- Freshman
Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits.
ON DECK
The Friars will conclude their home schedule this upcoming weekend against Creighton University. The first contest is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday (April 28).
