Softball Swept By Seton Hall In Double-Header

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team was defeated by Seton Hall in a double-header on Saturday, April 22 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars fell, 11-1, in six innings in game one and 9-3 in game two.
 
GAME ONE NOTES
-Freshman Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first to give the Friars a 1-0 advantage.
-The Pirates gained a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning. Lela Allen hit an RBI double down the left field line followed by a two-run home run from Taylor Hill.
-In the top of the fourth inning, Seton Hall's Kelsey Carr and Shelby Smith hit back-to-back home runs to extend the Pirates lead to six, 7-1.
-Seton Hall added four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take an 11-1 lead and close the contest out in six innings.
-Sophomore Jessica Walter (Middleton, Del.) started in the circle for the Friars. She pitched 5.0 innings, allowing seven earned runs.
-Senior Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) came in for relief and pitched 1.0 innings.
 
GAME TWO NOTES
-The Pirates' Hannah Alexander hit a solo home run in the top of the second to give Seton Hall a 1-0 advantage.
-In the top of the third, Carr hit an RBI single to center field to add to the Pirates lead, 2-0.
-Freshman Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to left field to get the Friars on the board, 2-1.
-Andrea Perez added a run for the Pirates to extend their lead to two, 3-1.
-The Pirates exploded with six hits and five runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to eight, 9-1.
-The Friars responded with a two-run home run from junior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) to cut into the Pirates lead, 9-3.
-Freshman Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) started in the circle pitching 4.1 innings for the Friars, surrendering seven earned runs.
-Cunnigan relieved Quirk pitching 1.2 innings, she did not allow any runs. Walter also pitched 1.0 innings and struck out one batter.

The Friars will host Brown University on Wednesday, April 26 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
