Softball Falls To DePaul, 15-6, In Five Innings

CHICAGO, ILL. – The Providence College softball team was defeated by DePaul, 15-6, in five innings on Friday, March 31 in Chicago, Ill.
GAME NOTES
-The Friars got off to 1-0 start in the top of the first. Sophomore Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) singled to left field allowing sophomore Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.) to score.
-In the bottom of the first, DePaul answered and tied the game off an RBI single up the middle from Nicole Sullivan.
-In the top of the second, the Friars regained the lead by scoring four runs, 5-1. Junior Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) hit a two RBI single followed by freshman Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) scoring on a wild pitch. Harrington scored the final run of the inning for the Friars off an RBI single from Douma.
-The Blue Demons responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to slim the Friars lead to two, 5-3.
-In the bottom of the fourth, DePaul scored 12 runs to gain a 10-point advantage, 15-5.
-Sophomore Kaelyn Loncharich (Yucaipa, Calif.) hit an RBI single to left center field in the top fifth inning, 15-6.
-Freshman Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) started in the circle for the Friars pitching 1.0 innings. Senior Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) and freshman Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) also pitched for the Friars, pitching 2.2 and 0.1 innings, respectively.
-Douma led the way for the Friars with two hits and two RBIs.

The Friars will play DePaul for their second game of the series on Saturday, April 1 at 4:00 p.m. et. in Chicago, Ill.
