PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will host the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday, March 29 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars will then travel to Chicago, Ill. to face DePaul University in a three-game BIG EAST series beginning on Friday, March 31.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars enter Wednesday's game with a 9-17 overall record and a 2-7 BIG EAST record.
Junior
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) continues to pace the Friars lineup with a .373 batting average. She also leads the team in hits (28) and RBIs (16). Sophomore
Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) has posted a .294 batting average recording 20 hits and 13 RBIs.
Senior
Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) leads the pitching staff with a 3.78 ERA and a 3-2 record. She has pitched 29.2 innings and has struck out 15 batters.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
The Rams come to Providence with a 6-17 overall record. Rhode Island went 1-2 against Atlantic 10 opponent George Mason on March 25 and March 26.
Graduate student Elena Gonzalez has recorded a team-high 21 hits recording a .304 batting average. Senior Skyler Rapuano has registered a team-best .362 batting average. She has recorded 17 hits including five doubles and five RBIs.
Senior Liz Lynchard has appeared in 15 games for the Rams pitching 58.1 innings. She has recorded a 4.32 ERA and has struck out a team-high 66 batters.
SCOUTING DePAUL
The Blue Demons are 9-16 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST. DePaul will face Northwestern on Tuesday, March 28 before welcoming the Friars to Chicago.
Sophomore Anna Wohlers leads the Blue Demons at the plate this season with a .394 batting average. She has tallied 28 hits, nine doubles, eight home runs and 24 RBIs. Senior Brooke Johnson has also made an impact at the plate recording 27 hits and 13 RBIs.
Freshman Bella Nigey has gone 5-6 in the circle for the Blue Demons pitching 65.0 innings. She has registered a 4.20 ERA while striking out 45 batters.
ON DECK
The Friars will face Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. for a single game on Wednesday, April 5 followed by a doubleheader on Thursday, April 6.
