PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team fell to the University of Rhode Island, 4-1, on Wednesday (March 29) at Glay Field. The Friars drop to 9-18 overall this season.
GAME NOTES
- Rhode Island opened the scoring in the first inning as Rachel Zingerman's RBI double gave the Rams an early 1-0 lead.
- Providence leveled the score at 1-1 in the second inning on a Geanice Morales (San Antonio, Texas) RBI single that plated Ryanne Hayes (Bellingham, Mass.).
- The Rams took back the lead in the top of the third on a steal of home and RBI single from Kylie Bulinski to make it a 3-1 game.
- Becca Zawistowski hit a solo home run to extend the Rams' lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning.
- Freshman Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) started the game for the Friars and surrendered three earned runs on five hits through 3.1 innings.
- Freshman Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.) pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Chicago, Ill., for a three-game series at DePaul University beginning on Friday (March 31).
