PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team open its 2023 season at Stetson University, who will play host to the 2023 Frank Griffin Classic in DeLand, Fla. on February 10-12. The Friars will play five games throughout the course of the weekend against Dayton (Feb. 10), Stetson (Feb. 10, Feb. 11) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Feb. 11, Feb. 12).
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars finished the 2022 season with a 25-21 overall record and a 11-13 record in BIG EAST play.
Providence returns top hitters junior
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore
Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) in the starting lineup. During the 2022 season, Harrington recorded a .359 batting average with 51 hits and 12 homeruns through 142 at-bats. At the conclusion of the 2022 season, she earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. Petrarca posted a .288 batting average with 38 hits, seven homeruns and 20 runs through 132 at-bats.
Junior
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) will also be returning to the mound for the Friars. Grifone posted a 2.56 ERA over 134.0 innings pitched last season and recorded a team-high 176 strikeouts.
Providence welcomes nine newcomers to the program for the 2023 season –

Riley Quirk (Holden, Mass.),
Geanice Morales (San Antonio, Texas),
Sara MacKinnon (Danbury, Conn.),
Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.),
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas),
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) and
Ryanne Haynes (Bellingham, Mass.). Providence also welcomes in transfer
Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.). Aldrich is a sophomore who spent the previous season at Lehigh University.
SCOUTING DAYTON
The Flyers wrapped up last season with a 22-24 overall record and a 12-10 record in the Atlantic-10.
Sophomore Emma Schutter is their most notable returning position player, she hit .414 last season with 63 hits and 14 RBIs in 46 games. Senior Emily Daniel also returns for the Flyers who helped her team offensively last season recording 43 hits.
SCOUTING STETSON
The Hatters finished last season with a 21-35 overall record and 10-14 record in ASUN play.
Senior Brianna Clary returns to Stetson this season. In 2022, she posted a .330 batting average with 59 hits and 41 runs in 56 games. The Hatters return junior Lauren Hobbs to the circle this season. Over 153.1 innings pitched last season, she posted a 2.92 ERA with 112 strikeouts.
SCOUTING FARLEIGH DICKINSON
The Knights finished their 2022 campaign with a 24-25 overall record and a 14-10 record in the NEC.
Sophomore Andreya Flores returns to Fairleigh Dickinson this season after posting a team-best batting average of .378 in 2022. She registered 54 hits and six homeruns. Sophomore Jess DeWitt returns to the lineup after hitting a team-high 59 hits in 2022.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the Buc Up! Tournament hosted by Charleston Southern University from Feb. 17 through Feb. 19. The Friars will play five games throughout the weekend against UMass (Feb. 17), North Dakota (Feb. 17, Feb. 18) and Charleston Southern (Feb. 18, Feb. 19).
