DELAND, Fla. – The Providence College softball team split two games in day two of the Frank Griffin Classic on Saturday, Feb. 11 in DeLand, Fla. The Friars beat Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-5, and fell to Stetson, 4-3, in game two.
GAME ONE NOTES
-The Knights scored two runs in the first and third inning to get an early advantage.
-Sophomore
Emma Douma (Midland Park, N.J.) hit an RBI triple down the right field line followed by a 2 RBI single from sophomore Rachael Patrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) The Friars led 3-1.
-In the fifth inning, freshman
Geanice Morales (San Antonio, Texas) hit an RBI single down the middle allowing sophomore
Kaelyn Loncharich (Yucaipa, Calif.) to score. Douma followed with her first career three run homerun to left center field extending the Friars lead to four, 7-4.
-Senior
Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) pitched a complete game for the Friars recording three strikeouts.
GAME TWO NOTES
-The first two innings were scoreless.
-Sophomore
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) hit a two-run homerun in the top of the third inning giving the Friars a two point advantage.
-Stetson scored three runs to gain the one-point advantage heading into the seventh inning.
-Douma hit an RBI single to right center field to even the score at 3-3.
-Stetson was able to secure the 4-3 win in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single.
-Sophomore
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) pitched for the Friars and struck out four batters.
ON DECK
The Friars will play their final game of the tournament against Fairleigh Dickinson at 10:00 a.m.
