Softball Outlasts Bryant, 10-9

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team defeated Bryant University, 10-9, on Tuesday, April 19 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. With the win, the Friars improved to 23-14 overall.

GAME NOTES
-The Friars struck for three runs in the first inning. Lea Kosinski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) doubled to right center field to bring in Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) hit a two-run homerun.
-The Friars extended their lead in the second inning with back-to-back homeruns from Harrington and Kosinski, 6-0.
-The Bulldogs responded with six unanswered runs through the next four innings to even the score, 6-6.
-Bryant took the lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Courtney Paolantonio singled to the left side to bring in Jenn Gardner, 7-6.
-Providence responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain the lead. Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) hit an RBI single to left field, Lyndsey Evix (Cumblerland, Md.) hit a two-run homerun and Kosinski contributed with an RBI double to left center field, 10-7.
-Grifone improved to 10-7 on the season and pitched 6.0 innings for the Friars. She allowed eight hits while striking out nine batters.

ON DECK
The Friars will host Villanova University on April 22 to begin a three-game BIG EAST series.
