PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team defeated cross-town rival Brown University, 6-1, on Tuesday, March 8 in Providence, R.I. With the win, the Friars improved to 10-5 overall this season.
GAME NOTES
-The Friars' scored six early runs in the first inning and maintained the lead to pick up the 6-1 win over Brown.

Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) scored the Friars' first run after
Kari Shedrick (Apex, N.C.) walked with bases loaded.

Lyndsey Evix (Cumberland, Md.) hit an RBI single through the left side allowing
Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) to reach home plate.

Tiana Wren (Glen Lyon, Pa.) hit a three RBI double to close out the scoring for the Friars, 6-0.
-Brown's Laurel Moody homered to right center to get the Bears on the scoreboard in the second inning.
-The next five innings remained scoreless for both teams.

Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) and
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) combined to pitch the Friars' to victory. Grifone went four innings, allowing three hits while striking out two batters. She was the pitcher of record and earned the win to improve to 5-2 on the season. Alvarez closed the game pitching three innings, she allowed one hit and struck out three batters.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to South Orange, N.J. for their BIG EAST opening series against Seton Hall from March 11 – March 13. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11.
