Softball Travels To Brown

The Friars and Bears will play on Tuesday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will face cross-town rival Brown University on Tuesday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I. The Friars are coming off four straight wins, defeating Coppin State twice, Towson and Columbia in the DeMarini Tiger Clash in Towson, Md. on March 4 and March 5.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence has began the season with a 9-5 overall record in non-conference play.
 
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) continues to pace the Friars lineup at the top of the order, as she is hitting .425 on the season and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this week. She also leads the team in RBIs (10) and slugging percentage (.775). Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) leads the team with five home runs and holds a .267 batting average. Providence has eight separate players with home runs on the season. Lea Kosinski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) hit her first collegiate home run down the left field line in the Friars 4-1 win versus Coppin State on March 5.
 
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) has gone 4-2 on the season pitching 40.1 innings and posting a 2.60 ERA. She has held batters to a .248 batting average while striking out 51 players. Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) has posted a 3.73 ERA pitching 30.0 innings for the Friars. She has held batters to a .244 batting average allowing 32 hits on the season. Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) has also seen some time in the circle for the Friars this season. She earned her first career win in the Friars' win against Coppin State on March 5. She pitched 6.0 innings and allowed one run while striking out five batters.
 
SCOUTING BROWN
The Brown Bears are 4-6 overall, winning four of their last five games.
 
Alexis Guevara leads the Bears at the plate, posting a .333 batting average. Leah Carey holds a team-high nine hits while Kat Clum and Lauren Innerst have each contributed eight.
 
Guevara has been the dominate pitcher for the Bears, pitching 19.0 innings and holding a 1.84 ERA. Innerst has held batters to a .184 batting average when she is in the circle, pitching 13.2 innings for the Bears this season.
 
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to South Orange, N.J. for their BIG EAST opening series against Seton Hall from March 11 – March 13. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11.
