TOWSON, Md. – The Providence College softball team defeated Columbia, 8-5, and Coppin State, 4-1, on day two of the DeMarini Tiger Clash on Saturday, March 5 in Towson, Md.
GAME ONE NOTES
-Columbia's Abby Stuart hit an RBI single in the first inning to give the Lions an early 1-0 advantage.
-
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and
Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning. The Friars led 4-1.
-
Tori Grifone added to the Friars lead with a home run to right field in the fourth inning, 5-2.
-The Lions' Jaden Hill hit a two RBI double down the right field line to tie the game in the top of the fifth, 5-5.
-Grifone and
Madi Traver (Irving, Texas) gave the Friars the lead at their next at-bats. Grifone singled up the middle while Harrington contributed the run. Traver hit a two RBI double to right center field.
Gabriella Sebastian (Ramsey, N.J.) and Petrarca scored for the Friars.

Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing eight hits and striking out seven batters. Grifone pitched 2.0 innings and was the pitcher of record earning her fourth win of the season.
GAME TWO NOTES

Lea Kosinski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) hit a two RBI single in the top of the first. Harrington and Petrarca contributed the runs, the Friars had an early 2-0 lead.
-Coppin State's Brissa Alvarado homered to center field in the second inning to get the Bald Eagle's on the scoreboard, 2-1.

Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) hit an RBI single in the fourth inning to gain the Friars lead to two, 3-1.
-Kosinski hit her first career home run down the left field line in the sixth inning to seal the win for the Friars.

Jessica Walter (Middleton, Del.) earned her first career win and pitched 6.0 innings. She allowed three hits and struck out five batters.

The Friars will play their final game of the tournament on Sunday, March 6 against Columbia University at 10:00 a.m. in Towson, Md.
