Softball Defeats Coppin State And Towson On Day One Of The DeMarini Tiger Clash

TOWSON, Md. – The Providence College softball team swept day one of the DeMarini Tiger Clash on Friday, March 4 by defeating Coppin State, 18-0, in five innings and Towson in game two by a score of, 7-2.
 
GAME ONE NOTES
-The Friars gained an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and led wire-to-wire to pick up the 18-0 win over Coppin State in five innings.
-Madi Traver (Irving, Texas), Kaelyn Loncharich (Yucaipa, Calif.), Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) and Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) led the charge in the first inning bringing in five runs.
-Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) hit a home run to open the second inning. The Friars led 6-0.
-Six more players scored for the Friars in the second inning.
-Gabriella Sebastian (Ramsey, N.J.) hit an RBI single to the left side in the third inning. Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) contributed the run.
-Nunez followed with a three-run home run to give the Friars a 16-0 lead.
-Kari Shedrick (Apex, N.C.) homered up the middle in the fourth inning to close out the scoring for the Friars. They led 18-0.
-The Friars went 12-for-28 at the plate with nine different players recording a hit.
-Grifone earned her fourth win of the season and pitched 4.0 innings in the circle. She earned her first shutout and struck out six batters.
 
GAME TWO NOTES
-Providence entered the scoring column first in the top of the first inning. Grifone and Traver each hit RBIs for the Friars. Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and Shedrick contributed the runs, 2-0.
-Traver homered to left center field in the third inning adding a run to the Friars lead.
-Abbatine closed out the scoring for the Friars with an RBI double to center field.
-Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched a complete game, earning her third win of the season. She allowed two runs while striking out six batters.
 
ON DECK
The Friars will play two games in day two of the DeMarini Tiger Clash against Columbia and Coppin State on Saturday, March 5 in Towson, Md. Game times are set for 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
