PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will host Merrimack College in a double header on Wednesday, March 16 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. before playing St. John's in BIG EAST action in a three game weekend series.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars enter Wednesday's double header with a 12-6 overall record and a 2-1 record in BIG EAST play.
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) continues to pace the Friars lineup, as she is hitting a team-high .389 batting average. She also leads the team in hits (21) and RBIs (12).
Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) has posted a .340 batting average recording 17 hits and 10 RBIs. Providence has eight separate players with home runs this season.
Rachael Petrarca leads the team with five home runs on the season.
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) has posted a 5-2 record this season, earning two wins against Seton Hall last week. She has pitched 47.2 innings and has posted a 2.94 ERA.
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) has also contributed 49.1 innings in the circle this season. She has allowed 21 runs while striking out 63 batters.
SCOUTING MERRIMACK
The Warriors have posted a 4-3 overall record entering Wednesday's double header. Merrimack went 2-3 in The Spring Games earning wins against Siena and Niagara.
Ellen Hubbard has posted a .455 batting average going 10-for-22 at the plate. Jenna Wike has recorded seven hits and three RBIs this season for the Warriors.
Bry Michitson has gone 2-0 this season pitching 19.0 innings for the Warriors. She has recorded eight strikeouts while allowing eight runs.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
The Red Storm has posted a 3-16 overall record and 0-2 record in BIG EAST play to begin the season. St. John's will face UConn and Fairfield on March 15 and 16 before facing the Friars.
London Jarrard leads the Red Storm at the plate this season posting a .381 batting average. She has recored 16 hits and eight RBIs. Meisha Murray has also made a significant impact at the plate recording 13 hits.
Hannah Mearns has pitched 43.0 innings in the circle this season appearing in the starting lineup eight times. She has held batters to a .276 batting average and has recorded 26 strikeouts. Carolina Zamudio has contributed 40.0 innings in the circle while holding batters to a .283 batting average.
ON DECK
The Friars will travel to Kingston, R.I. to face intra-state rival, the University of Rhode Island, on Tuesday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m.
