Softball Sweeps Double Header Against Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Providence College softball team took two games in a double header on Friday, March 11 in South Orange, N.J. against the Seton Hall Pirates. Both games were close with the Friars winning 3-1 in game one and 2-1 in game two. The Friars improved to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in BIG EAST play.
 
GAME ONE NOTES
-Seton Hall took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Abby Wingo hit a double and Janae Barracato contributed the run.
-The Friars scored two runs in the third inning off hits from Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.).
-Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) hit an RBI single in the sixth inning. Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) contributed the run. The Friars led 3-1.
-Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) earned her fifth win of the season pitching a complete game. She allowed three hits and struck out three batters.
 
GAME TWO NOTES
-The first two innings were scoreless for both teams.
-Harrington and Grifone both hit RBI singles in the third inning giving the Friars a 2-0 advantage. Abbatine and Harrington contributed the runs for Providence.
-Seton Hall scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, slimming the Friars lead to one.
-Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) earned her sixth win of the season pitching 5.1 innings. She allowed two hits and struck out four batters.
 
ON DECK
The Friars will host Merrimack in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 16 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Game times are set for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
