SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Providence College softball team split two games in day two of the Gaucho Classic on Saturday, Feb. 26. in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Friars beat Idaho State, 3-1, in game one and fell to Boise State, 15-1, in five innings in game two.
GAME ONE NOTES
-Sophomore
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) homered down the left field line in the first inning to give the Friars an early, 1-0, lead.
-The Bengals Rheanne Lewi brought in a run in the bottom of the first to even the score at, 1-1.
-The next three innings went scoreless, and the score remained tied at 1-1.
-Graduate student
Micaela Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) and freshman
Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) each hit an RBI in the fifth inning. Junior
Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) and Abbatine contributed the runs, 3-1.
-Grifone impressed in the circle pitching the entirety of the game. She allowed one run and struck out nine batters earning her third win of the season.
GAME TWO NOTES
-Boise State got on the scoreboard first scoring bringing in a run on with a steal in the second inning,1-0.
-Sophomore
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) singled to left field in the top of the third bringing in a run. The score was tied at 1-1.
-The Broncos scored 14 unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings to conclude the game in five innings, 15-1.

The Friars will play their final game of the Gaucho Classic on Sunday, Feb. 27 against the Boise State Broncos at 12:00 p.m. et. in Santa Barbara, Calif.
