SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Providence College softball team fell to Idaho State, 11-1, and UCSB, 5-2, on Friday Feb. 25 in day one of the Guacho Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif.
GAME ONE NOTES
-Idaho State scored four straight runs in the first two innings gaining an early, 4-0 advantage.
-Freshman
Rachael Petrarca (Clearwater, Fla.) brought in a run by hitting her fifth homerun of the season in the third inning, 4-1.
-The Bengals brought in seven unanswered runs over the next two innings giving them a 10-point lead and ending the game in five innings.
-Senior
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) started in the circle for the Friars. She pitched 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and four runs.
-Freshman
Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) pitched the remaining 2.2 innings. She allowed six hits and struck out four batters.
GAME TWO NOTES
-The Gauchos scored one run in the first inning to give them a 1-0 advantage.
-Sophomore
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) brought in a run in the top of the second inning to even the score, 1-1.
-UCSB scored three more runs in the second, third and fifth inning giving them the three-point advantage, 4-1.
-Junior
Gianna Magrino (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) brought in one more run for the Friars in the top of the seventh inning, 5-2.
-Sophomore
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) pitched six innings for the Friars. She allowed five runs and struck out three batters.
ON DECK
The Friars will play two games in day two of the Gaucho Classic. Providence will play Idaho State at 12:30 p.m. and Boise State at 5:00 p.m. in Santa Barbara, Calif.
