PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will host the Butler University Bulldogs this weekend with a double header beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 before the series finale on Sunday, April 24 at 12:00 p.m.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Friars are currently 2-11 overall this season. Providence dropped to 1-8 in the BIG EAST Conference after dropping a weekend series against Villanova and a make-up game against St. John's this past weekend.
Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) has led the Friars at bat this season, posting a .200 batting average. She has tallied seven hits on the season. Tomaso is tied with
Madi Traver (Irving, Texas),
Jacque Harrington (Bedford, N.H.),
Gianna Magrino (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and
Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.) for the team-high in home runs (one). Tomaso is also tied for the team-high RBI (two) with
Lyndsey Evix (Cumberland, Md.).
Crista San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) is at the top of the lineup with a .250 batting average in 16 at bats.
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) and
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) have combined for the teams two wins in the circle. Alvarez holds a 2.60 ERA in 29 innings while Grifone has posted a 2.75 ERA in 20 innings.
Sarah Gunderson (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) has struck out a team-high 28 batters.
SCOUTING BUTLER:
The Crimson have a 15-15 overall record and 5-7 mark in the BIG EAST. The team is most coming off two wins versus Ball State and Dayton University.
Lauren Fey leads the Bulldogs in batting average (.420), followed by Karli Ricketts (2.53). Fey and Rickets have combined for 33 RBI and 58 hits. Six players have hit home runs this season for Butler, with Ricketts tallying a team-high of six.
Butler has seen three pitchers make at least 11 appearances this season, Mackenzie Griman, Alyssa Graves and Karli Ricketts. Ricketts has pitched the most innings for the Bulldogs, posting a 8-5 record, 2.60 ERA and 101 strikeouts over 83.1 innings pitched. Graves has pitched the second most innings on the team (68.1) and posts a 2.36 ERA and a 6-4 record.
ON DECK:
The Friars will play a three-game series against UConn beginning with a double header on Tuesday, April 27 beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Glay Field. The teams will wrap up the series with a single game on Wednesday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m.
