Softball Travels to St. Johns

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will travel to Queens, N.Y. to play the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday, March 27 at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Friars are currently 2-5 overall this season and hold a 1-2 BIG EAST record. Most recently, Providence opened BIG EAST play with a series against Creighton University at Glay Field. The Friars were swept in the series-opening doubleheader (March 12), 2-0 in game one and 6-0 in game two. Providence claimed the third and final game of the series, 3-2, the following day (March 13).
 
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) leads the team in batting average with a .300 mark and .350 slugging percentage. Madi Traver (Irving, Texas) holds a team-high home runs after hitting a solo home run against Creighton on March 13. Lyndsey Evix (Cumberland, Md.) leads the team with 2 RBI.

Grifone has pitched a team-high 16.2 innings for the Friars, with a 1-2 record. Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) also has a 1-2 record pitching for the Friars, with a 3.23 ERA. Sarah Gunderson (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) pitched the final three scoreless innings in Providence's win over Creighton on March 13, allowing just one hit and earning her first career save.
 
SCOUTING ST. JOHNS:
The Red Storm are 5-8 overall this season with a 2-4 mark in the BIG EAST. St. Johns is coming of a 4-8 loss in a non-conference game against Fordham, including a series against Seton Hall when they split a doubleheader and took the series finale for a 2-1 record on the weekend.
 
Marissa Rizzi leads the Red Storm with a .485 batting average. She has 12 RBI on the season and a team-high .625 on base percentage. St. John's has combined to hit eight home runs, with Rizzi leading the way with three home runs on the season. Peyton Cody and Gretchen Bowie have each hit three and two home runs, respectively.
 
Kayla Kmett leads the team in the circle, posting a 5.97 ERA and a 3-4 overall record. She has pitched a team-high 34.0 innings and struck out 25 batters.
 
ON DECK:
The Friars will host UConn in a three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10 beginning 12:00 p.m. before the series finale on Sunday, April 11 at 11:00 a.m.
