Field Hockey Closes Regular-Season Schedule With Quinnipiac And Dartmouth

Friars host Bobcats on Friday in BIG EAST action before facing the Big Green Sunday for senior day.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will wrap up the regular-season schedule this weekend with a pair of home games at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars will host Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 29 in BIG EAST action before facing Dartmouth for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 31.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
• The Friars enter the weekend with a 6-10 overall record (1-5 BIG EAST) and have posted a 6-3 mark at home on Lennon Family Field.
• Providence is coming off of a 5-2 loss to No. 9 Liberty in BIG EAST action. 
Sophia Pompeo scored two goals at 9:04 and 38:21 to give Providence a 2-0 lead and the Friars' defense held the Flames' potent offense scoreless until 41:15.
• It marked just the second time this season that an opponent had held Liberty scoreless in the first half.
Asia Porter recorded a career-high 22 saves in goal vs. Liberty.
Niamh Gowing leads the Friars' offense overall with 15 points on five goals and five assists.
Lisa McNamara ranks second with 12 points on two goals and a team-best eight assists.
• Her eight assists rank second in the BIG EAST and 33rd in the nation among NCAA Division I players.
Nora Goddard-Despot rounds out the list of double-digit scorers with 10 points on three goals and four assists.
• Pompeo and Olivia Ward are tied for second in goals scored, with four each.
• Porter has played the majority of minutes ina the cage this season (895) and owns a 2.21 goals against average and a 0.766 save percentage.
• Porter leads the BIG EAST and ranks fourth in the nation in saves per game (7.20). She also ranks second in the conference and 19thin the nation in save percentage (.766).
 
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC:
• Quinnipiac enters the weekend with a 2-11 overall record, including a 1-5 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
• The Bobcats are coming off of a 5-4 overtime win against Villanova in their most recent game on Oct. 22.
• Emilia Massarelli scored the game winner 2:39 into overtime to lift Quinnipiac to victory. She finished the game with two goals and one assist.
• Massarelli leads the Bobcats' offense this season with 17 points on eight goals and one assist and is responsible for eight of Quinnipiac's 13 goals overall.
• Julianna Cappello is second on the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. She recently tallied two goals and one assist (five points) in the Bobcat's victory over Villanova.
• Lucia Pompeo and Brooke Whipkey round out the goal scorers with one each.
• Pompeo is the younger sister of Providence College junior forward Sophia Pompeo.
• Stella Tegtmeier leads the team in assists (three).
• Mack Vorel has started each of Quinnipiac's last nine games in goal. She has played a total of 586 minutes and owns a 2.97 goals against average and a 0.681 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH:
• Dartmouth enters the weekend with a 4-10 overall record.
• The Big Green will take play at Yale in Ivy League action on Saturday, Oct. 30 before making their way to Lennon Family Field to face the Friars.
• Dartmouth is in the midst of a six-game winless streak, with its last victory coming against Merrimack (5-0) on Sept. 19 in Hanover, N.H.
• The Big Green own a 1-5 record on the road this season.
• Holley Cromwell leads the offense with nine points on three goals and three assists.
• Bronwyn Bird and Lila Browne are tied for second in scoring with seven points apiece. Bird has tallied three goals and one assist, while Browne has recorded two goals and three assists.
• Hatley Post and Isabella Santucci have split the duties in goal, with each player logging 435 minutes of action.
• Post is 1-5 on the year with a 2.34 goals against average and a 0.742 save percentage.
• Santucci is 3-5 between the pipes with a 2.34 goals against average and a 0.707 save percentage. She played all 60 minutes and made 10 saves in the Big Green's most recent game on Oct. 24 at Maine, which was a 3-1 loss.
