CLEARWATER, Fl. – The Providence College softball team defeated Yale, 8-2, in Providence's final game of the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational on Sunday, March 8. The Friars improve to 6-9 this season and conclude the tournament with a 3-2 mark.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Providence scored the opening seven runs to propel Providence to an 8-2 victory in the Friars' final game of the tournament.

Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Penn.) broke the scoreless game in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run home run for her team-high fifth home run of the season.

Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) joined the action hitting her fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot after
Skie Villani (Sugar Land, Texas) singled and stole second to get in scoring position. The run marked Villani's sixth of the early portion of the season.
- The Friars continued to load the bases with two singles and a walk.
Gianna Magrino (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) was called to pinch hit and hit a two-RBI single that built a 6-0 lead. Magrino now holds eight RBI on the season in her freshman campaign. Compton notched her third RBI of the inning with an infield single while the bases were loaded to create a 7-0 cushion heading to the bottom half of the third inning.
- The Bulldogs chipped away with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single.
- Lauren Nuñez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) plated Providence's final run of the game with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning that scored
Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.).
- Yale added one run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a passed ball that finalized the scoring.

Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched the first six innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight batters. Freshman
Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) closed the door in the seventh inning.
ON DECK
Providence play a doubleheader against Ohio and Cleveland State on Tuesday, March 10. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in game one followed by a 3:00 p.m. first pitch in game two.
