CLEARWATER, Fl. – The Providence College softball team improves to 5-9 on the season after splitting two games in the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational on Saturday, March 7. The Friars were unable to comeback against Western Michigan in a 4-0 loss before defeating Robert Morris in five innings, 9-1.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Western Michigan used three runs in the bottom of the third inning to fuel a 4-0 victory over Providence in game one.
- The Broncos broke the scoreless game in the third inning after Kaylen Glenfield notched a two-RBI double. Western Michigan added one more run on an RBI double to take a 3-0 lead into the top of the fourth inning.
- Jordyn Swinehart scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning off a wild pitch.

Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Penn.) recorded her fifth multi-hit game of the season, tallying both hits for Providence in the contest.

Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) started the game in the circle and recorded her fifth complete game of the season. She struck out four batters over six innings of work.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Providence allowed the opening run in the third inning but scored nine unanswered to defeat the Colonials, 9-1, in five innings.
- Robert Morris tallied their lone run on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
- The Friars evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of half of the inning after Compton hit an RBI triple to score Lauren Nuñez (Rowland Heights, Calif.). The RBI marked Compton's 10th of the season.
- Providence notched six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead.
Marisa Jenkins (Randolph, N.J.) and
Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) scored on an errand throw to build a 3-1 cushion.
Gianna Magrino (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) followed crossing the plate on a throwing error by the second baseman.
Tiana Wren scored her sixth run of the season on a passed ball to hand Providence a 5-1 lead.
Skie Villani (Sugar Lan, Texas) and
Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) capped off the scoring with RBI singles to take a 7-1 lead into the fifth inning.
- Mairèad O'Sullivan (Grafton, Mass.) handed the Friars the 9-1 victory after hitting a two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning that plated Magrino and Jenkins.

Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) earned her first win of the season in the circle, she allowed three hits over five innings of work and struck out three batters.
