Softball Splits Opening Doubleheader In The Clearwater Spring Break Invitational

CLEARWATER, Fl. – Freshman Tiana Wren (Glen Lyon, Penn.) hit her second walk-off home run of the season to secure a split in day one of the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational on Friday, March 6. Providence fell to Bowling Green in game one, 1-0, before defeating Florida A&M on Wren's walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning, 7-5. The Friars are now 4-8 on the season.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Bowling Green scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a 1-0 victory over Providence in game one of the day.
- The Friars threat in the top of the second inning after Crista San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) earned a walk followed by an infield single off the bat of Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.). The runners were stranded on first and third to head to the bottom half of the second inning.
- The Falcons found their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning after scoring on a fielding error by Providence.
- The Friars tallied three hits in the game.
- Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched her fourth complete game of the season and falls to 2-4.
 
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Providence and Florida A&M battled through a game of runs before Providence scored five unanswered runs to defeat the Rattlers, 7-5.
- Kenyamari Jones opened the scoring in the top half of the first inning after notching a two-run home run to hand Florida A&M a 2-0 lead.
- The Friars answered in the bottom half of the inning to level the game at 2-2 at the conclusion of the first. Skie Villani (Sugar Land, Texas) knocked in her second RBI of the season after plating Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Penn.) with an RBI single. Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) continued her hot start to the season with her team-high 11th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly.
- The Rattlers took their second lead of the game adding one run in the top of the fourth on a fielder's choice, followed by two runs in the top half of the fifth on a two-RBI single by Destiny Cuevas. Florida A&M led 5-2 heading into the sixth inning.
- Providence chipped away at the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the team within one, 5-4. Compton picked up her eighth and ninth RBI of the season with a single that scored Annie Flego and Wren.
- Freshman Tiana Wren delivered the heroics in the bottom half of the seventh with a walk-off three-run home run to give the Friars a 7-5 victory. Her two home runs on the season have come on walk-offs.
- Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) earned the start in the circle and pitched 4.2 innings. She struck out two batters and allowed six hits. Julia Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass.) was the pitcher of record and improved to 1-0 on the season. She pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed just two hits.

Providence will enter day two of the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational with matchups against Western Michigan at 9:00 a.m. and Robert Morris at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7.
