2/21/2020 5:39:00 PM | Softball

MADEIRA BEACH, Fl. - The Providence College softball team dropped its doubleheader on day one of The Spring Games to Columbia, 6-0, followed by a 5-2 setback to Albany.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lions jumped in front 5-0 in the bottom of the first inning and held Providence scoreless, defeating the Friars by a score of 6-0 in their opening game of the doubleheader.
- Columbia built its 5-0 lead with two RBI singles and a three RBI double in the opening frame. They added an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth inning with an infield single that plated Amanda Nishihira.
- Providence found three hits in the contest off the bats of the Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Pa.), Skie Villani (Sugar Land, Texas) and Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.).
- Daniela Alvarez (La Habra, Calif.) earned the start in the circle, allowing six earned runs in six innings of work. She struck out two batters in the process and falls to 1-3 on the season.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Providence fell in a 3-0 hole in the top of the third inning and failed to comeback as the team dropped its second game of the day, 5-2.
- Love Drumgole scored the opening run off a fielding error before the Great Danes added two runs on an RBI single and RBI double.
- The Friars cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning after Jackie Martin (Bridgeton, N.J.) plated Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) with an RBI double. The RBI marked Martin's second of the season as Tomaso scored her third run of the year.
- Madison Petrella handed Columbia a 5-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning with a two RBI double.
- Danielle Towle (Bridgewater, N.J.) tallied her first RBI of the season with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning but that would prove to cap off the scoring.
- Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) started the game in the circle and pitched three innings, allowing two earned runs. She was the pitcher of record and moved to 1-1 on the season. Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) relieved Cunnigan and pitched the final four innings. She allowed zero earned runs and struck out two batters.
