Tiana Wren Hits Walk-Off Home Run To Propel Providence Over George Mason, 3-1

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Freshman Tiana Wren hit a walk-off home run off the left field foul pole to propel the Providence College softball team over George Mason, 3-1, on Sunday, Feb. 17 in its final game of the Bearkat Classic. Providence improves to 2-3 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Friars scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to comeback and defeat the Patriots, 3-1.
- George Mason jumped in front in the top of the first inning after Taylor Dadig hit an RBI single down the left field line.
- Jessica Tomaso (Milford, Mass.) tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo shot to left center field. The home run marked the sixth of her career after hitting five in her freshman campaign.
- Marisa Jenkins (Randolph, N.J.) reached base on a walk before Tiana Wren (Glen Lyon, Penn.) sent Providence home with the 3-1 victory with a walk-off home run.
- The home run was Wren's first of her collegiate career.
- Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) pitched her first complete game of the season, earning her first win of the 2020 season. She struck out six batters over the course of seven innings.
- Elysia Cunnigan (Corona, Calif.) and Crista San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) were named to the 2020 Bearkat Classic All-Tournament Team for their efforts. Cunnigan pitched 10.1 innings, allowing zero earned runs while striking out six. San Antonio hit a grand slam in the Friars' 11-7 win over Sam Houston State on Feb. 15.
ON DECK
Providence will compete in The Spring Games next weekend from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23. The Friars will open the tournament with a double header versus Columbia and Albany (Feb. 21), followed by a double header against Stony Brook and South Dakota (Feb. 22). Providence will wrap up the tournament with a lone matchup with Merrimack on Sunday, Feb. 23.
