Men's And Women's Track Programs Earn 2019 USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Academic Team Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The U.S. Track & Field And Cross Country Coaches Association released its academic awards today [July 23]. The Providence College men's and women's track programs each earned 2019 USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Academic Team Awards. Five Friars also were recognized individually as USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honorees.

In order to be in considered, a program must have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. The men's track & field program posted a 3.29 team GPA. The women's program checked in with a 3.52 team GPA, marking the highest grade-point average of any varsity athletic program at Providence College for the 2019 spring semester.

Individually, red-shirt senior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.), graduate student Regan Rome (Dallas, Pa.) and junior Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) each claimed USTFCCCA All-Academic Team accolades as members of the Providence College women's track & field team.Â
Paladino and Wheeler are majoring in physics and mathematics, respectively. Rome is pursuing her MBA.Â

Senior Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) and graduate student Michael Wyman (Marion, Mass.) each represented the men's track & field program as All-Academic Team honorees. Karamanolis majors in arts, while Wyman is pursuing his MBA.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
