Softball Set To Play Georgetown In Final Regular Season Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will travel to Washington, D.C. to play in its final regular season series against Georgetown on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5. Providence swept Butler in its most recent BIG EAST series to hold onto fourth place in the BIG EAST. The Friars must match or exceed Seton Hall's win total this weekend to clinch their first BIG EAST Championship berth since 2013, when the conference realigned and made the tournament a four-team field.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
Providence boasts its highest win total since the 2008 season with a 28-20 overall record and 9-8 BIG EAST mark. The Friars most recently fell to UMass, 5-4, in a game that came down to the final inning on Tuesday, April 30.
 
In BIG EAST play, Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) has hit to a .373 batting average with 22 hits. She leads the team in doubles (five) in conference play. On the season, she holds a .415 average and .510 slugging percentage, both team-highs. Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Pa.) leads the team in RBI (eight) in BIG EAST play as she has posted a .256 batting average in conference games and .309 average overall. Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) has held down third base, having the third highest batting average (.263) on the team in conference games.
 
Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) proved her dominance this past weekend, earning three wins against Butler. She improved to 17-6 overall and 7-6 in the BIG EAST. She has a team-low 2.03 ERA and has pitched a team-high six shutouts this season. Alvarez controls the strike zone with 126 strike outs while only giving up 28 walks.  
 
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN:
The Hoyas sit at seventh in the BIG EAST with a 13-33 overall record and 5-11 mark in conference play. In their most recent series, they lost two of three games to Seton Hall on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.
 
Providence will have to look out for Noelle Holiday at the plate, Holiday has hit .353 this season with a .647 slugging percentage. She has a team-high eight home runs and 36 RBI. Savannah Jones is another force at the plate, she has hit to a .303 mark with 21 RBI and a .455 slugging percentage.
 
Five players have entered the circle this season for the Hoyas, all five have recorded over a 5.00 ERA. Anna Brooks Pacha leads the team in ERA (5.74). London Diller has a team-high five wins in 29 appearances and 16 starts.
 
ON DECK:
Providence will await its fate for the BIG EAST Championship until the conclusion of play this weekend.
