WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College softball team split two games against the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, May 4 in Washington, D.C. The Friars dropped game one, 3-1, before rallying late to defeat the Hoyas in game two, 5-2. Providence is now 29-21 overall and 10-9 in the BIG EAST.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Friars scored one run in the top of the first inning but that proved to be all as they fell to Georgetown, 3-1, in game one of the double header.
- Providence wasted no time taking a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning.
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) hit her 10
th double of the season before
Skie Villani (Sugar Land, Texas) brought her in with an RBI single to left center field. Villani earned her seventh RBI of the season with the single.
- Savannah Jones of Georgetown knotted the game at one run apiece in the bottom of the first inning. Jones sent a solo home run over the left field fence. Providence and Georgetown were tied 1-1 at the end of the first inning.
- Georgetown added a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and bottom of the third to take a 3-1 advantage. The Hoyas scored on an RBI single in the second inning before another solo home run in the bottom of the third. Neither team scored a run for the remainder of the game.

Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) started in the circle and pitched 2.1 innings. She was the pitcher of record and received the loss after allowing three earned runs on six hits. She added four strike outs.
Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) relieved Alvarez and pitched the final 3.2 innings. Trinidad struck out two batters while only allowing one hit.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence trailed by two runs after the second inning but used five unanswered runs to take the 5-2 victory.
- Georgetown used small ball in the bottom of the second inning to build a 2-0 lead. The first run came in on a ground ball to the pitcher that the runner on second rounded third and scored on the throw to first base. A fielder's choice to
Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) brought in the second run.
- The Friars evened the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning. Compton opened the scoring by bringing in Lee with a sacrifice fly to left field for her 15
th RBI of the season. Villani followed by scoring on a passed ball with two outs to make it a 2-2 game.
- Providence gained its first lead of the afternoon in the top of the fifth inning. Lee walked before Compton and Tomaso hit back-to-back RBI doubles to take a 4-2 lead. That was Compton's second RBI of the game and Tomaso's 23
rd RBI of the season.

Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.) gave the Friars some insurance in the top of the sixth inning, McGarry led off the inning with a deep home run into the left field netting for her second of the season.

Megan McCune pitched a complete game, only allowing two hits. She improved to 8-8 this season with the win and this was her fifth complete game performance of the season.
- The Friars outhit Georgetown 10-3 in the matchup.

Providence will wrap up its series with Georgetown tomorrow, May 5 at 12:00 p.m. The Friars will have to await the results of the Seton Hall versus Creighton and Villanova versus DePaul series to determine their fate in the BIG EAST Championship.
