PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team completed its second BIG EAST series sweep of the season on Sunday, April 28 on senior day at Glay Field. The Friars defeated the Bulldogs, 4-0, courtesy of home runs from seniors
Alison Abbatiello (North Salem, N.Y.) and
Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.). Providence improved to 28-19 on the season with a 9-8 BIG EAST record.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence built a 3-0 cushion in the bottom of the third inning and led wire-to-wire to pick up the 4-0 victory over Butler.
- Abbatiello hit her first career home run in the bottom of the second inning to give the Friars a 3-0 lead. The seniors manufactured the lead on senior day as
Hadley Tate (Yarmouthport, Mass.) reached base on a single with
Annie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.) coming in to pinch run, followed by
Jackie Martin (Bridgeton, N.J.) earning a walk. Abbatiello then came to the plate and hit towering shot over the left field fence.
- Portillo added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning with her team-high fifth home run of the season to left center field, to give the Friars a 4-0 lead.

Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) held a no-hitter into the top of the seventh inning before giving up Butler's lone hit. She pitched her 13
th complete game of the season and sixth shutout.

Providence will play its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, April 30 in Amherst, Mass. against UMass at 4:00 p.m.
