PHILADELPHIA, PA.- The Providence College track & field team competed at the 125th Penn Relays on Thursday, April 25. The Friars had athletes competing in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, women's 5,000 meters and the men's 5,000 meters.
Senior Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Western Australia) was the highlight of the night in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase. Ilarda took control of the race early and attempted to break the field by making it an honest pace. She opened a gap with five laps to go and never looked back. Ilarda would go on to take the victory in a time of 9:55.43 breaking the meet record. This was Ilarda's third Penn Relays title of her career.
Junior Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) and graduate student Regan Rome (Dalla, Pa.) raced in the first section of the women's 5,000 meters.
