Softball Hosts Butler In Final Home Series For Senior Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will host the Butler Bulldogs for a double header on Saturday, April 27 followed by the series finale on Sunday, April 28 at 12:00 p.m. for senior day. The Friars remain a half game back of Seton Hall for fourth place in the BIG EAST standings. The top four teams in the BIG EAST during the regular season will advance to the BIG EAST Tournament in Chicago, Ill. from May 10-11.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
Providence holds a 25-19 overall record and 6-8 mark in the BIG EAST. The Friars have protected home field this season with an 8-2 record on Glay Field. Most recently, Providence fell in a midweek matchup to the number one team in the A-10, Fordham University, 5-3.
 
Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) is hitting .415 in her senior season with a .392 batting average in BIG EAST play. Lee ranked second in the conference heading into the week posting a .407 average with 56 hits. She is currently tied for first in the BIG EAST in hits with Paige Rauch of Villanova (56). Lauren Nunez (Rowland Heights, Calif.) has the second-best batting average on the team in conference play, she is hitting .257 at the plate while starting all 14 BIG EAST matchups at third base. Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Pa.) trails Lee with a .301 batting average and .518 slugging percentage. She is one of four players to have at least three home runs on the season. In Providence's 5-3 loss to Fordham, she scored all three runs including hitting her third home run of the season in the fifth inning. Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) leads the team in RBI with 25. The Friars have seen success on the base paths as they have stolen 38 bags in just 43 attempts.
 
The Friars pitching staff has been dominant all season, posting a BIG EAST best 2.76 team ERA. Daniela Alvarez (Santa Ana, Calif.) leads the staff with 2.27 ERA and 14 wins. She is 4-3 in conference play, with four complete games and one shutout. She ranks 39th nationally in walks allowed per seven innings (1.34) and 53rd nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.12).
 
SCOUTING BUTLER:
The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 15-28 overall record and 3-8 BIG EAST mark. Most recently, Butler dropped two of three games in a BIG EAST series against Creighton on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. The Bulldogs fell to Ball State in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, 3-2.
 
Freshman Lauren Fey leads the Bulldogs at the plate with a .333 batting average. Providence will have to keep senior Jenna Foreman off the base paths. Foreman has 28 stolen bases this season, proving to be the top base stealer in the BIG EAST. She also leads the team with 45 base hits and 13 multi-hit games.
 
Alyssa Graves and Karli Ricketts handle most of the work in the circle as they have combined for 40 appearances. Graves has a 6-14 overall record compared to Ricketts' 5-12 record. The staff has combined for a 3.51 team ERA, proving to be third best in the BIG EAST.

ON DECK:
Providence will travel to the University of Massachusetts in the team's final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, April 30 for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch.
